The Australian and Celtic attacker Daniel Arzani has confirmed he requires a knee surgery that will rule him out of Australia’s Asian Cup defence and the rest of the season.

Arzani, who is currently on loan from Manchester City suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament after coming on for his Celtic debut against Dundee last week. The 19-year-old twisted his knees while changing direction 20 minutes into his first game for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

In a post on Instagram, Daniel Arzani confirmed his season-ending injury: “Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to show support and love.

“I’m trying my best to reply to everyone but please understand this is also a very tough time for me as I received the bad news today that I will indeed need an ACL op ruling me out until next season.”

Arzani is on two-year loan deal at Celtic from Manchester City, who acquired the services from their sister club in Melbourne.
