Arsenal_Continental_Cup_truimph

The stage is all set for FA (Continental) Cup Women’s final and it is an encore of the last year. The same teams will be battling for the silverware as they were in FA Cup 2018 finals. The mighty Arsenal will be up against the ferocious queens of Manchester City, just so you know – Arsenal kissed the medals last time out.

Bramall Lane (Home of Sheffield United) is all set to stage the women finale.

When and Where?

Date: February 23, 2019

Time: 12:15 BST

Venue: Bramall Lane, Sheffield

Previous Encounters

Arsenal and Manchester City have both locked horns in the finals for two times already and this will be their third fight for the silverware. Both the teams have registered win apiece, with City getting the better of Arsenal in 2014 and the latter conquering the Sky Blues last year.

This will be their third battle in the finals and a consecutive one. City won the title with a 1-0 owing to a goal from Izzy Christiansen that won the game over Arsenal in 2014, and so did the Ladies of London in 2018 with score sake courtesy Vivianne Miedema’s goal.

Road to Finals

City and Arsenal both topped their respective groups in order to reach the summit. While City scored 14 points in 5 of their games, topping Group One North, Arsenal were the toppers of Group Two South.

Manchester City had a pretty fluid run as compared to Arsenal’s fairly decent one. City first defeated Brighton and Hove Albion in the Quarter finals before triumphing over the Blues 2-0 courtesy a brace from the Englishwomen Nikita Parris.

Arsenal had a faint kiss of luck in their semi-final game against Manchester United which they eventually held on to win the game 2-1. Before that, they defeated Birmingham to reach the semi-finals of Continental Cup.

ARSENALCORE’s player to look out for: Vivianne Miedema

Vivianne-Miedema

She did the job last season and is well tipped to do the same this year. Vivianne has been consistent as well as deadly in front of goal this season. Miedema became the highest goalscorer in a single WSL season with her 16th goal this campaign. She also scored a brace against Manchester United and City well have to be wary to contain her, to even have slightest chance kissing the trophy.
