João Cancelo has been loving his time in Catalonia with Barcelona, looks like he has settled in quite seamlessly under Xavi and has become an integral part of the squad. He has also been consistent in his displays, the latest of which came in the form of a goal and an assist against FC Porto in what was a 2-1 win for Barcelona in the Champions League.
Mundo Deportivo have come up with the reports that Barcelona are flirting with the idea of making Manchester City owned Cancelo’s stay permanent, and that ‘great performance’ in the CL just confirmed their desire to do so – as much so that he made headlines on the front page of today’s paper reading ‘priority Cancelo’.
All three parties ie the club (Barcelona), the coach (Xavi), as well as the player, are in agreement to want to continue this partnership.
There have been claims that Barcelona’s ‘desire to sign Cancelo is total’ which was also been relayed to Jorge Mendes, who claims he will ‘do everything he can’ to make his client’s ‘dream come true.’
Mundo Deportivo states that Man City value the Portuguese at around €25m, which comes as a figure substantially lower than what other Spanish newspaper relays. Although, Barca will try and negotiate a lower fee. That being said, it will be delusional to sign the 29-year-old for lower then that 25mil fee given his current form.
Both the clubs haven’t started to speak yet, although Barca are said to be aware they ‘will have to fight’ if they are to get Joao on a permanent deal for an affordable fee.
