The German champions Bayern Munich are going all in for Kyle Walker. The treble winner and English full-back is being viewed as Bayern Munich’s top target this season.
Bayern Munich had gotten Joao Cancelo on loan this January but did not enjoy the services of the Portuguese international as they do not look to sign him on a permanent basis. They however have shown immense interest in Cancelo’s compatriot Kyle Walker.
In what is termed to be a shock move, chances of Walker leaving in despair were evident after his absence from the Champions League final playing XI. The 33-year-old fullback has been a match-winner for Pep Guardiola over the last few years and still at his best, he has every right to be frustrated of not starting the game.
Kyle Walker’s game time at Manchester City will only decrease with time. It’s not because of his but the change in the style of play of Guardiola. The Spaniard has found a winning strategy in 3-2-4-1 where he deploys three defenders who are naturally centre-backs in a back four defence.
John Stones has been used and excelled as a defensive midfielder which has given the likes of Akanji, Ruben Dias, and Nathan Ake to handle the back line. Stones’ absence in the defensive front forces Guardiola to play with 3 natural central defenders leaving no place for Walker to slot in.
The 33-year-old full-back only made 3 Champions League appearances this season and only 21 starts in the Premier League indicating a decline in his game time as compared to the 2019/20 season where he had 42 appearances in a lesser number of games played by Man City.
Thomas Tuchel is a firm admirer of Kyle Walker and is pushing for a deal to take place but so is Pep Guardiola. Even though the Spaniard did not have a spot for Walker in his Champions League final squad, he wants Kyle in his team.
