Fantasy Premier League: 3 Manchester City players worth considering for your FPL team

Manchester City may be the best-performing team; miles better than their chasers, but when it comes to Fantasy Premier League, not many Man City players make it into FPL Managers’ book. One obvious reason being the scoring gets distributed amongst players and so do their fantasy points unless he is Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian is priced at £14 million this season backing his 272 points performance from last season. While he will be the obvious choice for many, there are three players this season apart from Haaland and injured KDB who can be considered as a healthy bet during Man City’s gameweek.

1. Ederson Moraes

Priced at £5.5 Million, Ederson comes as the most-priced goalkeeper in FPL alongside Alisson Becker and Nick Pope. Well one surely has the option to buy David Raya at £5.0 million but his team at Brentford isn’t concrete and therefore Ederson can make space in the team of those who want to play a safe bet. If Raya is to stay, Ederson and Raya can be your goalkeeper choice; benching them according to the matches.

Don’t let Ederson’s last season’s performance fool you into not buying him. He registered 11 clean sheets last season which were the least in his time at City. Pep Guardiola’s team eventually got their control back in defence during the later stages and again look a solid defensive squad to break past. Ederson was 2nd best goalkeeper in the 2018/2019 season albeit having 20 clean sheets and followed the next 3 seasons with 3 consecutive golden gloves ( 16 clean sheets in 2019/2020 , 19 clean sheets in 2020/2021, and 20 clean sheets in the 2021/2022 season).

The Brazilian likes to be involved in the game and would want to get his acclaimed golden glove back which would also mean 4 FPL points per clean sheet.

2. Phil Foden

Phil Foden can potentially have his breakthrough season at Manchester City. The talented youngster has been in the limelight for years but was unlucky not to get enough gametime because of City’s jam-packed midfield. With Gundogan off to Barcelona already and Kevin De Bruyne doubtful of starting the season, Foden will be given the helm of midfield and the role of a playmaker.

We can expect him to bring his A-game out and structure his moves in parallel with those of Haaland. The duo will be deadly moving forward and with a beast as a centre-forward, we can count Foden to score a few goals and provide plenty of assists. Priced at £7.5 million, Foden is not expensive but with the plethora of point-scoring opportunities he has up ahead.

Last season too, despite only playing for a little under 2000 minutes, Foden was able to accumulate 142 points; courtesy of 11 goals and 7 assists.

3. John Stones

Plays as a midfielder and scores fantasy points as a defender. John Stones can be cunning to buy. The Fantasy Premier League still identifies Stones as a defender but Guardiola’s 3-2-4-1 formation has given him more of a midfield role. Playing as a defensive midfielder alongside Rodri, Stones was able to score 2 goals and provide 2 assists last season.

Evolving as a midfielder, we can expect Stones to have a greater number of passes under his name and a few more goals/assists to his tally. The clean sheets will also earn him 4 points which make him an interesting and non-ignorable buy at only £5.5 million.
