Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Manchester to take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in what will be the biggest showdown of the season so far.

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last eight games in a row and seem to have steadied their form after an underwhelming start to the season that has taken them up to 10th place from the bottom half of the table.

Liverpool have been in fantastic form in the league and in Europe in recent weeks after a faltering start that saw them on the wrong side of a 7-2 scoreline against Aston Villa.

The Reds won 5-0 in Europe earlier this week after thrashing Atlanta and are now on a five-match win streak.

Given the unpredictability of results this season, both teams are just beginning to discover their form and this match will prove to be a tough contest for both managers and an exciting watch for us viewers.

Team News

Manchester City have been strengthened by the arrival of several players as Gabriel Jesus, Nathan Ake and Kevin De Bruyne have all returned to the field from the treatment table.

Sergio Aguero remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and has missed out on City’s last three fixtures.

Fernandinho was subbed off due to a muscle problem against Porto and is expected to be out for the next four weeks until after the international break. Similar to Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy will not be risked for this fixture as the Frenchman is still recovering from a muscle injury.

For Liverpool, Thiago Alcantara remains out of contention ever since Richarlison’s tackle on the midfielder last month. Liverpool’s backline was severely weakened by Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho both ruled out but will be boosted by the return of Joel Matip back into the squad.

Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s latest signing has been in phenomenal form as the Portuguese scored a hattrick against Atlanta in the Champions League.

Roberto Firmino is currently going through a dry patch for goals with questions being raised on his place in the side. However, Klopp still remains a big admirer of the Brazilian and will be expected to field a fluid front four of Jota, Firmino, Mane and Salah with Henderson and Wijnaldum acting as the two holding midfielders.
