Is Sergio Aguero the best Premier League striker?

“Statistics are like Bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive but what they conceal is vital.”

Evidently so, Sergio Aguero holds the best stat of goals per minute for the players in Premier League but this does not make him a all out element of Pep Guardiola’s starting XI, with the Spaniard preferring the young Brazilian Gabriel Jesus for a better flow.

The Argentine has not started all the games like his compatriots, Harry Kane, Salah or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who have been the core of their teams.

Sergio Aguero is presently second top scorer(14 goals) in the Premier League to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang(15 goals) having started in 21 games as compared to Gabonese’s 25. The striker has best goal scoring ratio as compared to other strikers of Premier League, not only of recent time but of past too. While he score 1 goal in every 107 minutes, Mohamed Salah does the same in 110 minutes and the English captain in 115.

Apart from this, Sergio Aguero has score more hat-tricks than most of the Premier League greats, second only to Alan Shearer. The highest goal scorer in Premier League history, Shearer had scored 11 hat-tricks in the tally of 260 goals while Aguero has 10 already in the tally of 157 goals. The Argentine will surely surpass the legend in terms of hat-tricks scored if not in number of goals.

The young talent from Atletico Madrid who was touted as the best youngster in 2011 when he joined Manchester City has not let “Sheikh bow his head in distress.” And particularly this season, Sergio has been as good as one can be, finishing in the most sublime manners, virtually being unstoppable. Not to forget the fact that his place is still replaceable, which keeps him on the tenterhooks always. A good thing for the team and a test of Aguero’s consistency.

When asked to Guardiola whether he felt he had improved Aguero, he replied: “It’s a good question for him. I cannot answer that.”

“I know my players when I work with them in the good moments, bad moments, how they react, and from the beginning, I’m very pleased.”

When people in the first year said I’m not friends with Sergio, as sometimes I played Gabriel or Raz (Sterling) as a striker they were my decisions but I was always delighted (with Aguero).

“It wasn’t just that he scored three goals but for how he tried, fought, and worked backwards. He gave absolutely everything for the team.

“Of course he doesn’t have the energy of Gabriel or Bernardo (Silva) but every player has his own quality.

“I judge the intentions, not the results and the intentions from Sergio was always perfect since we were together.”

Slowly but definitely has Manchester City’s top scorer alluded himself in the good books of Guardiola which seem to be a chapter long enough for the fans to cherish.
