Vincent Kompany is facing another injury scare with World Cup on the way. The Belgian defender is on a race against time to be fit enough to travel to Russia.
Vincent Kompany just walked off without bothered of being substituted against Belgium’s 0-0 draw against Portugal with another injury scare. Many ruled Kompany out of the World Cup, though today he was named in Belguim’s 23 man squad with Los Angeles FC defender Laurent Ciman as a back-up option.
Kompany traveled back to Manchester City’s club facilities to recover from the groin injury he suffered and Belgian representatives have been in constant contact with City’s officials. Though Belgium manager Roberto Martinez will wait until the end to make a final decision. Belgium kick-start their World Cup against Panama on 18 June and a late call is expected over Kompany’s participation.
“Until 24 hours before we can still make a replacement,” Martinez said.
“We need to wait a period of seven, eight days with Vincent Kompany. Then we will get a good opportunity to make a diagnosis.
“Vincent Kompany is a true leader. He’s been working very hard in the camp, played in a fantastic manner against Portugal.
“He performed in a fantastic manner when he was on the pitch. His leadership is essential for us.”
However, he added: “If on 17 June, Vinny is not fit, he’s not going to go to the World Cup.”
