The Premier League champions are close to complete their third signing in the summer transfer window as Manchester City is closing in on a deal for Juventus right back Joao Cancelo.

The Blue half of Manchester have already secured deals for Angelino and Rodri over the past week or so and Pep Guardiola has made it quite clear that he wants to sign a proper right back despite having Kyle Walker at his disposal.

Walker signed a new long term contract which ties him down the City of Manchester Stadium until the foreseeable future, but Guardiola believes the Englishman needs some competition to ensure that he steps up his game.

Recent reports claim that Juventus defender Joao Cancelo could become the latest player to join Manchester City as the Serie A champions are looking to make a profit from his sale.  The Portuguese star was highly impressive for Juventus last season but the Old Lady are hoping to make a profit from the sale of Cancelo.

And according to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window Podcast, the 25-year-old right back is viewed as a long term option in defense for Manchester City. Castles said, “We told you some time ago Manchester City wanted Cancelo in as an upgrade at right-back, to be first-choice starting right-back for the coming season. They’ve been working on that deal for a while. I’ve had an update on that today which is that the transfer is close to completion. I’m hearing that from the Italian end, and also a second source “I don’t think it’s absolutely there yet, but I believe Juventus are happy to sell the player and take a profit on the €40.4m transfer fee they paid for Cancelo a year ago.

Cancelo is valued at around £54 million as Manchester City look to make a transfer bid for the young attack-minded defender. Could he be the man who fills in the boots for Kyle Walker as the first choice right back for Manchester City?
