Manchester City have inquired about the availability of 23-year old RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has already scored 11 times this season including a hattrick at the Etihad in September. RB Leipzig have brought the best out of the Frenchman who has been touted as the replacement for current Chelsea forward, Timo Werner.

Nkunku is a product of PSG’s academy and has constantly given returns on £12m investment since he joined Leipzig two years ago. He has featured in many positions across the front line for Leipzig. His versatility makes it possible for the team to play in a number of unique ways that teams find difficult to deal with.

Despite the attacking quality of Pep Guardiola’s side, City have enquired about the possibility of a transfer through intermediaries. It is rumoured that the RB Leipzig star does not have a release clause in his current contract, making it easier for negotiations to take place. Despite this favorable development, City would not be alone in the pursuit of Nkunku. A number of European clubs are thought to be keeping an eye on his development. Teams in the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga are reportedly positioning themselves for a battle for his signature

Manchester City have a star studded squad at the moment. A move for Nkunku could see a number of attacking players depart the club between now and next summer. Whether this move will materialize all depends on the next few weeks and the ambition of the player. Interactions with intermediaries will determine whether this pursuit moves forward or burns out.
