The winter transfer window is almost here and there are quite a number of transfer links gaining speed. Manchester City are rumoured to be interested in Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi.
The 23-year-old Englishman has been one of the star performers for the Eagles since he made a permanent move in 2021 from fellow PL side, Chelsea. Guehi instantly slotted into the Palace backline and even earned a call up to the England senior team.
Arsenal were the first club to be linked with a move for him, with other clubs including Manchester United and former club Chelsea all being interested. It comes as a surprise that Man City would be interested in Guehi considering the amount of investment made into the back line over the last two transfer windows but the unpredictability of every window makes it understandable.
A fee in the region of 50m will be required to make Palace consider a sale. However, with the number of clubs interested, a bidding war may drive the price up especially since the player has a contract with the club valid until 2026. Any move made in January will be rejected with a summer sale the only thing that would be considered.
Pep Guardiola is careful about the players he chooses for his Man City dynasty and if there is any truth to this rumour, Guehi might just be poised for success in Manchester. While the player’s position on a possible transfer remains unknown, the pull of Manchester City in particular might be enough to turn his head. This is one to watch between now and the summer.
