RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo is expected to leave the club next summer despite only recently signing a new contract valid until 2027. The La Masia graduate has become a mainstay for Spain and Leipzig with top notch performances from midfield and on the wing occasionally.
Over the last 12 months, Olmo has been linked with various moves away from Germany with Manchester City being listed as one of the possible destinations. The deal will however not come easy with the new contract and Leipzig having no reason to sell their prized asset, especially considering the number of high-profile sales made over the summer.
If Man City are to close the deal before other clubs join the race, they would need to pay in excess of £50m, which is what Leipzig value him at currently. That figure can go up in the course of the season, as the Spaniard is enjoying a good start to the 2023/24 season. The versatile midfielder scored five times in four appearances before picking up a knee injury in September.
Pep has long admired the 25-year-old midfielder due to his ability to function in many roles that make him a good fit for the system at Manchester City. A move in January is off the table but City would need to step up and decide whether or not to make the move in the summer.
Despite the amazing talent of the current City midfield, the addition of Olmo brings more quality and a different dimension as he has been compared to Real Madrid great, Luka Modric. If anything, making a move to City makes them even scarier and one of Spain’s best players at the moment is yet to hit his peak. There is still a lot of time to consider the transfer but at the moment, City are leading the race for RB Leipzig’s #7.
