Manchester City targeting River Plate defender Lucas Martínez Quarta

It’s no news that Manchester City are in the market for a central defender after all the vows we had in the centre of the defence in the recently stopped campaign.

And they may turn their attention to Argentina, Lucas Martínez Quarta – a regular at River Plate since the start of the 2018/19 season. His impressive performances have caught eye of many European elites viz. Inter Milan, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Real Betis. Dortmund and Ajax are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old prospect.

Lucas Martínez Quarta has a contract with River Plate till the summer of 2021, and the deal is said to have a release clause of around €22 million. Italian news outlet Calciomercato.it claims that Lucas is ‘ready to make a big leap’.

His agent Gustavo Goñi in an interview with TNT Sports claimed that the Argentine attracted interests from multiple clubs pre-pandemic and River Plate are hoping to have some offers running their way in the summer.

“Until before the quarantine, many clubs were after El Chino. There were many clubs that had come to see him. I think there will be interest again when the picture is clear,” Goñi said.

“The idea is to agree with River an opportunity for everyone, hopefully the best possible offer will come. In case that does not happen, we will have to get together and see what is most beneficial for everyone. But today we are imagining, it is a matter of waiting.”

Though originally Goñi didn’t provided any details of the club’s scouting Lucas Martínez Quarta, yet Calciomercato.it has only named the Blues from Manchester as a potential destination.
