Manchester City and Arsenal are both keeping a close eye on Newcastle United right-back Tino Livramento, and the Magpies could be pushed into selling him next summer if talks over a new contract go nowhere.
According to Football Insider, the two clubs are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and have kept monitoring him this season. Both have tried to sign him in recent years, and both times Newcastle blocked the move.
What has changed is the contract. Livramento’s deal at St James’ Park runs until the summer of 2028, and Newcastle are said to be reluctantly ready to cash in next summer if they cannot make progress towards an extension before then.
Why would Newcastle sell Tino Livramento?
They would rather not. Newcastle “would love” to tie the England international down to a new deal, and there is no doubt inside the club about his quality. The Chelsea academy graduate is widely rated as one of the best young full-backs in the country when he is fit.
That last part is the catch. Livramento is out again with a knee injury, and there is no date yet for his return. He has managed just 33 minutes of Premier League football this season and has not been in a matchday squad since 14 September. Last season, the former Southampton man was only fit enough to start 14 league games.
Newcastle’s own season is not helping. Matthias Jaissle’s side are 13th with 11 points after four defeats in their last five games, and the summer spending is under scrutiny, with sporting director Ross Wilson reported to be fighting for his job. His stock has dropped with this latest lay-off, and the club are only prepared to sell if they absolutely have to.
Where would Livramento fit at Man City?
Right-back is where Manchester City have been mixing and matching. Matheus Nunes started there in Wednesday’s 3-2 win at RB Leipzig, with Rico Lewis among the substitutes, and Nunes is in our predicted lineup for Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest as well.
City’s interest is nothing new either. Back in July 2025 they were reported to have walked away from a move for Livramento when Newcastle set about offering him a new contract, and the pattern has repeated since: City look, Newcastle say no.
Arsenal in the same queue
The difference next summer is that Newcastle might finally listen. If they do, City will not have the field to themselves, because Arsenal have been watching for just as long and have been knocked back in the same way.
Is Livramento worth the risk for City?
On talent, yes. A 23-year-old England right-back who has already proved himself in the Premier League is exactly the kind of player City should be tracking, and Enzo Maresca would get a specialist right-back to push Nunes and Lewis.
The fitness record is what gives us pause. Fourteen league starts last season and 33 minutes this season is not the profile of a player you build a back four around, at least not yet. With two years still left on his deal next summer, Newcastle would not be desperate sellers either, so City would be paying a proper fee for a player they cannot be sure will stay on the pitch.
Keep watching, then, and see what the rest of the season brings. If Livramento gets back fit and stays fit, City and Arsenal could be heading for a straight fight in the summer.
