While the temperature in England is touching the lows; Premier League is heating up with the race towards Golden Boot. Already 7 games into the second-half of the season, the Golden Boot has been shortlisted amongst 3 players; Sergio Aguero, Mohamad Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The league top scorer of two consecutive season, 2015-2017 Harry Kane could have been donning the list if it was not for his ankle injury against Manchester United on January 13. Otherwise it would have been the English captain at the pinnacle. Sergio Aguero, however, seems the most likely candidate of winning the title after his world-class performance against two big teams of Premier League. The Argentine forward scored a hat-trick against both, Arsenal and Chelsea, the teams in front of whom many big names falter.
Mohamed Salah who had a patchy start to this season is also in line of retaining his title after he nabbed the award with a whopping 32-goal mark. After a disappointing start, Salah has got his ground hitting, scoring goals more often than not. The new-comer of Premier League, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is also nearing the golden spot with two goals behind Aguero and Salah on 15 goals. If it was not for his failure against big names, Aubameyang would have been summiting the list.
Sergio Aguero is crowning the list with 17 goals who is followed by Mohamed Salah with goal sake. After Sergio Aguero, Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane is fourth on the list with 14 goals. The Englishman is about to return from injury and if he comes in his usual self, he would be unstoppable to win the title for 3rd time in 4 years. Eden Hazard and Sadio Mane who were on the podium position at the start of the season are now placed 5th and 6th with 12 goals a-piece. Manchester United’s sensation, Paul Pogba has also got his touch after Ole Gunnar’s entry but is far from winning the title with 11 goals.
Considering the goal per minute ratio, Sergio Aguero is the most preferred candidate of winning Golden Boot 2018-19. The only fierce competition Aguero will face is Egyptian goal king Mohamed Salah who is giving it all to defend his title. Let’s hope our Sergio goes on his merry way to win the Golden Boot title for the second time after 2014-15.
