After a stunning start to the debut season, Aymeric Laporte is on the verge of signing a new contract with Manchester City.
The £57 million defender who joined City in January 2018 has been a regular in Pep Guardiola’s squad with the most number of appearances by a City player this season. The Frenchman has been featured in 35 games for the club.
The club are expected to extend the contract of Laporte who has already signed with the club until 2023. In the absence of Benjamin Mendy, Laporte has filled in his shoes so brilliantly that he has become an undeniable unit in playing XI. The injury of Mendy is not concerning Guardiola a lot because of the presence of former Athletic Bilbao defender in the squad.
The player has grabbed Guardiola’s liking so fast so good. The manager said for the defender,” He is so professional, so serious.”
“He is playing a good level so that is why we trust him a lot.
“When he goes and drives a little bit to the middle he can play the balls to Riyad Mahrez , or to Raz (Raheem Sterling) on the right side.”
“So he gives us two alternatives to make our game quicker.”
A versatile defender who can play either as a left-back or a centre-back, Aymeric Laporte connects well with John Stones, who are speculated to be the future of City’s defence.
