Another season is drawing to a close and Manchester City still have a left-back issue unsolved. With Benjamin Mendy unavailable, Man City have relied on Olek Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo. While this has served as an effective stopgap, it limits the Cityzens when injuries and suspensions strike. The Blues have been linked with Brighton fullback, Marc Cucurella to solve their woes.

The 23-year old has enjoyed a stellar campaign, with impressive and dynamic performances which have caught the eye of many. Cucurella joined the Seagulls from Getafe for 15.4m and has quickly established himself as a fan favourite. After scoring his first Brighton goal, in the 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United, he wept tears of joy at the Amex. Brighton & Hove Albion may be tempted to cash in on the Spaniard, who would command a fee in the region of £30m which would rake in a sizeable profit from their investment.

Marc Cucurella offers a lot in both defensive and offensive areas. Defensively, he is able to track back and offer cover to his centre-back while also being able to recover the ball. A calm and composed figure on the ball he is able to take the ball and play out from the back. In attacking areas, his ability to cross and pick out passes makes him important for attacks on the left flank. He’s occasionally been deployed further forward for Brighton making him a perfect fit for City’s relentless pressing and attacking football.

Manchester City would probably not be the only side interested and that could spark a bidding war with other PL clubs. City do have the lure of Champions League football and a starting berth but it would be by no means a formality to convince the former Getafe man to sign for the club in a key summer.
