We cannot wait for the football season to begin once again and the curtain raiser for the next season has finally been decided as Liverpool will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, 4th August at Wembley.

Have you caught your breath from that exhilarating season so far?  If not you have just less than two months until Manchester City compete for glory once again.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City became the first club since Manchester United in 2009 to win back to back Premier League titles as they achieved the feat in stunning fashion. The Spanish boss guided City to 98 points this season and finished just a single point ahead of 2nd placed Liverpool as they were crowned champions of England once again.

Manchester City also added the League Cup and FA Cup to their trophy cabinet writing their names in the history books as the first club to complete a domestic treble. Unsurprisingly, City were winners of the Community Shield last season as well when they beat Chelsea in the one-off game 2-0 with Sergio Aguero netting a brace.

The Community Shield, also known as the Charity Shield is a game that contests of winners of the Premier League and the winners of the FA Cup. But because Manchester City won both those honors, the team that finished second in the league will encounter Pep Guardiola’s team.

Normally, the Community Shield is overlooked as a friendly or a preseason fixture but with both Liverpool and Manchester City eager to get the better of one another to show their dominance in the Premier League, it promises to be a feisty and interesting affair which will probably be the start of something special ahead of the new season.

This exhibition game takes place a week before the 2019/20 Premier League round begins on 4th August 2019.
